Would you give into temptation?

Temptations are all around us. I’m tempted to eat the chocolate bar in our candy drawer. I’m tempted to sleep in during the week. I’m tempted to tell some people what I really think of them. 🙂 But I don’t give into any of those temptations. Why? Because in most cases there are consequences. Consequences I’m not willing to suffer for the sake of a few moments of pleasure.

When I was in my twenties and single I ran into temptation when I went out with my friends. Bars are great places to unwind, dance, have a few drinks. Not so great for meeting your soul mate. I’m not saying it isn’t possible to meet your soul mate at a bar. I know people who have. It’s just not the best place. Back then I romanticized everything but I was also realistic. I was tempted to give into the guys who just wanted in my pants but I didn’t give in. The consequences weren’t worth the pleasure.

When is it good to give into temptation? When the consequences are something you can handle. If I eat that chocolate bar I can mitigate the consequences by spending more time in the pool. When I can afford it, I always give into the temptation to buy a book. Yes, this post is about my latest release – Tempted to Sin 🙂 The temptation is subtle in each of the stories but the characters do have to make a choice. To give into what they want or not. And to accept the consequences.

On sale for 99 cents for a limited time! The price is going up to full price after Easter.

Would you be tempted?

Each of the stories includes some sort of temptation. Sometimes giving into temptation is a bad idea. But sometimes it’s a great idea.

In Satisfaction Guaranteed a wannabe succubus meets her match for her last assignment: The college boyfriend who broke her heart.

In Scale Deep a reporter learns more than she bargained for when she discovers that dragons are real… and they walk among us.

In School Bites a woman bumps into her high school crush at a reunion. Curiously he hasn’t aged a day in 15 years. When the bodies start turning up she finds out why.

Six Sentences from School Bites

It’s Six Sentence Sunday again and today I’m posting six from the last story in my three short story compilation. This story takes place at a 15 year high school reunion. Callie is a reporter. Her high school boyfriend is now a detective in charge of two cases of murder in the city that are very similar. She wants Evan – for information about the murders and to warm her bed while she’s in town.

She checked in with the registration desk, slapped the label on her chest that had “Callie” written in bold black marker, then scoured the crowd for Evan. With the actual dinner and dance not scheduled until that evening it was possible he planned to arrive later. Disappointment felt like coal in her stomach at the thought he might not show up until just before the dinner. She wanted to pump him for information on the killer while he pumped into her hard and fast like she remembered.

A smile tugged her lips when she spotted Evan walking down the escalator giving him the illusion of hyper speed. She’d thought the pictures of him in the papers recently must have been airbrushed, but in person he didn’t look a day over twenty.

I’d love to know what you think. Comments are always welcome.

Revised six from Scale Deep

The first six sentences that I posted a few weeks ago for Six Sentence Sunday didn’t do very well. I don’t usually get a ton of comments but I do usually get some. For those six I got none. So I’ve revised them a little and hope these ones are better. To see the original six check them out here.

Revised opening for Scale Deep – story two in the Tempting Evil short story compilation.

Last week she’d been chasing a non-existent chupacabra in Texas. Now she was in Finland in September in search of dragons with only a vibrator with a dying battery to keep her warm. Her usual cameraman, having more sense than she did, had turned down the dragon search gig leaving her without the possibility of sex until she got home. Olga might be willing to share Peter but the slick, too good looking for his own good, boom operator wasn’t her type. Katrine shivered in the night air and poked the logs in the fire pit with a stick. Flames licked the wood sending sparks of fire into the air as the embers roared back to life.

I’d love thoughts on these six.

Six Sentences from Scale Deep

It’s Six Sentence Sunday again! I will start blogging during the week, I promise but these past couple of weeks have been crazy with a workshop, judging a contest and trying to get the Tempting Evil collection together.

Here are six sentences from the second story in the compilation, Scale Deep, a shape shifting dragon story.

Last week she’d been chasing a non-existent chupacabra in Texas. Now she was in Finland in search of dragons. Katrine shivered in the night air and poked the logs in the fire pit with a stick. Flames licked the wood sending sparks of fire into the air as the embers roared back to life. The timber crackled as it fell into a new position. It would have been nice if she had someone there to help keep the chill of September away.
